Sterling Virginia Smiles Partners with Food for Neighbors to Feed Underserved Students In Sterling, VA

We recently moved our Sterling Virginia Smiles dental practice to a new location, creating a beautiful new space and incorporating state-of-the-art  dental equipment. As part of our grand opening celebration this month, our team wanted to give back to the local Sterling community. Through a partnership with Food for Neighbors, a local nonprofit committed to ending student hunger in Northern Virginia, we were able to engage our patients, friends and colleagues to help support this great cause.

Food for Neighbors coordinates with school social workers to ensure that students who suffer from food insecurity can access reliable sources of nutrition outside of school hours. More than 7,500 area students receive food support at 47 local middle and high schools.

“We are so grateful to our community for supporting this wonderful local initiative and have successfully prepared 160 weekend food packs for these underserved middle-schoolers.” said Megan A. Keynton Sill, DMD co-owner of Sterling Virginia Smiles. “The food packs, plus a few remaining food items, totalled 478 pounds! This will be such a huge help for the students at Sterling Middle School. We want to thank our community from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us in this great cause.” said Rachel Hubbard, DDS, co-owner of Sterling Virginia Smile.

Ensuring that adolescents are well fed has proven positive outcomes for students including increased enrollment in AP courses and after school activities, increased graduation rates and improved mental and physical health. We know that a healthy diet is key to strong oral health as well, so it’s very important for us that children are properly fed and get the nutrients they need to build a healthy body. Healthy smiles are what we aim for at Sterling Virginia Smiles, and we can help you maintain yours when you visit our dental practice at least twice a year for your dental exam and cleaning. These essential components of good oral health can help prevent painful dental issues further down the line. Contact our team to schedule an appointment!
